Accreditation

Ensuring Quality

The purpose of accreditation is to recognize education programs that meet or exceed a pre-defined, agreed-upon standard of quality, and to support and encourage programs in their own quality improvement activities.

PEAC’s accreditation process seeks to evaluate a program’s effectiveness toward the fulfillment of its mission, the achievement of its goals, and its continuing efforts to enhance the quality of its program and of student learning and experience.

Accreditation Standards

PEAC accredits Canadian physiotherapy education programs and does not accredit programs outside of Canada. Currently, fifteen programs in Canada hold accreditation status and each program undergoes a full accreditation review every six years. The Accreditation Standards are reviewed on a regular basis to remain current with the professional education, practice, health, and regulatory environments.

Licensure

The Physiotherapy Competency Exam

Prior to practising physiotherapy independently in Canada (except in the province of Quebec), eligible candidates must pass the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE) administered by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR). Canadian graduates from a PEAC-accredited entry-to-practice physiotherapy program become eligible candidates upon graduation.
